We will perform maintenance beginning at 6:00 AM Pacific* on April 3, 2013. We expect this maintenance to take approximately 2 1/2 hours. This will impact the following services:
- Account management
- Commerce transactions, including purchases on our websites and in-game marketplaces
- Login for all SOE forums may be affected, you may lose permissions and experience occasional disconnects
- Login for all SOE games may be affected during the maintenance. Players who are already logged in may be disconnected and unable to log back in.
We apologize for this interruption and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.
From Gninja on the EQ2 Forums:
Just thought I would drop a few notes in here before everyone starts asking.
Q: How can I access the new raid zones?
A: The raid content in this update is closed beta. You will not be able to access this content as general population.Q: How can I join the closed beta?
A: Feel free to shoot myself or one of the other developers a private message on what sort of raid content you would like to test and what you can offer in terms of times and players/classes. If we feel you are good fit we will extend the invite. Keep in mind not everyone will be accepted.Q: Are the any X2 zones in this update?
A: Short answer, no. Long answer, There are two contested X2 encounters out in Cobalt Scar but no full X2 zones.
UPDATE from Gninja on why Siren’s Grotto Raid Beta Testing is private, and a count of the number of names within the zone:
There are 7 main bosses and 2 sub bosses. Yes trash drops loot. The zone buff packages are tougher then normal mode stuff in CoE all the way up to hardest in game for the challenge mode (of which there are 3) We are limiting this to invite only because we do not want folks in there just learning the fights. Instead we will be testing the different aspects of the fights with different guilds to make sure everything is working.

Good day, adventurers!
We are excited to begin our Open Beta for Game Update 66: Scars of the Awakened today!
There are a bunch of new topics opening today in our Beta forum. Each topic will be manned (or womanned) by Dev staff. We are very appreciative of all of the constructive feedback and bug reports we get, so please use our forums or use /feedback or /bug commands from inside the game.
We have plenty for you to test in this update we affectionately refer to as “Scars.” Our team hit on a triple-entendre with this update name. Outside of an EQ geography reference, a look at some of the Othmir are a dead giveaway – so to speak. I digress…
To copy your character to Beta, you can log in to a character and type /beta or simply use the Beta Copy button in the Character Select screen. Incidentally, this will copy your character’s houses – which is important – because we’d like you to help us test our new housing market options that allow selling and buying of houses! Each copied character will receive an in-game email with an invitation to Beta that will include a buffer and armor if needed.
To get to our new content in Cobalt Scar and Siren’s Grotto, use the griffon at the ThurgadinHarbor docks in Great Divide to fly to Withered Lands and then take the Withered Lands griffon to Cobalt Scar. Upon arriving, Osh will give quests. Acting Supplymaster Grant will give the tradeskill quests. Siren’s Grotto advanced solo and heroic content can be reached in the north of Cobalt Scar. You will find forum topics for each of the Beta zones if you have questions, feedback, and bugs (or use /feedback and /bug). This includes any issues you find with items, collections, new tradeskill apprentice recipes and daily tasks, and so on.
Also, our systems team has implemented changes to some class abilities based on player feedback – a lot of which came from the forums a short while ago. There are class forums in the Beta section so please refer to those for constructive feedback, questions, or bugs.
As you are playing, our Art team asks you to please try and hop into every nook and cranny you can, particularly where rocks, trees and other objects meet so we can flush out any lingering stuck issues. Also keep an eye out for noticeable holes in the world, stretched texture work, or for areas in the collision you may be able to escape through (particularly while flying in Cobalt Scar). If you suffer any immediate and very noticeable drops in frame rate in Cobalt Scar, please note the location and take a guess as to how many fellow players are in the viewable area. If you notice anything else that simply seems out of place or strikes you as possibly broken or incorrect, please pass that info along as well through the Beta zone forums or /feedback.
Buying and selling houses is available on Beta too! Please see the House Market Testing topic in the forums for some details on how to sell and buy houses, as well as some of the current rules and functionality. It’s still in development and will be refined, but we’d like to test the core functionality to sell, tour, and buy homes. Most marketplace items will be free (with most service items delisted) to help with decorating houses, and so on. For now, houses will be sold and bought without cost.
Last, but not least, our engineers have made some changes too. They would like you to report any problems with quests that can’t be removed or problems with public quests, and collections. Also, testing AA mirrors and confirming they work as they should would be helpful.
There’s a lot to test and we really appreciate you – our experts – helping to make this game clean and great!

Producer, EQII

On Friday, a hilarious video of Tom Tobey and Christopher Atkins introducing new Meatbeast mounts and house pets was released. The video was extremely well-received and I and many others ran out to buy the new mounts and pets and galloped all over Norrath mooing all the way.
But today, it seems the EQ2 team may have pushed the April Fools joke too far.
As was announced on Friday, a pink version of the Meatbeast matriarch mount is available TODAY ONLY (April 1st). What has players stunned is the price: 5,000SC. If you stocked up on StationCash over the weekend from Walmart, that works out to $18.75. If you didn’t, you’re going to be dropping upwards of $50. That’s more than an expansion!
Further, players couldn’t help notice that the original price is marked as 50,000SC 5,000SC. Players are not seeing the humor in that price markdown and instead wondering if the mount will jump to that price the next time it’s offered. We’ve heard from a few players who were so excited to purchase this mount that they grabbed one without double-checking the price, and are now out 5k SC. Thus far, EQ2 mounts have hovered between 1,950SC and 950SC.
Further, players have expressed shock that it’s not a Leaping mount, nor does it offer any bonuses to runspeed, beyond other mounts. You’re literally paying for a re-color of the Bovoch mount added on Friday.
Bovinasauros Rex? Cetaceans!
Raph Koster wrote an article which has been heavily quoted on MMO sites about Free-to-Play and the existence of Whales or customers who will buy big ticket items on game marketplaces. Is this SOE’s first foray into this category of high dollar items? Are they seeing a marketplace trend and simply getting on board with having a few rare items which are at a price beyond what most players would consider a sane purchase?
This is being discussed (raged) on the EQ2 Forums:
From Dexella on the EQ2 Forums:
Hey everyone,
We’ve seen a few posts recently about daily missions/quests not disappearing once they are completed and expired. We are aware of this and have a fix scheduled to go in next week. In the meantime, if you click on the daily in your journal, it will make it go away.
Thanks!

Oh. My. God.
When Beastlords were added to EQ2, the first thing an alarming number of people wanted to tame was Bristlebane‘s very own Bovinasauros Rex or the Meatbeast! Inexplicably, a month later the Meatbeast was taken away and there were rumblings that not all on the EQ2 team were quite so excited about the idea of players running rampant with them. We thought that was the end of it, but the Walter Bishopesque love for the Meatbeast in the EQ2 community just wouldn’t die! After a year of players clamoring, the Meatbeast was once again available to Beastlords and all was once again right with Norrath. We celebrated, smiled, and moved on. But not the insane evil genius EQ2, Senior Animator Tom Tobey and his cohort Christopher Atkins, Character Artist.
Just in time for the April Foolishness of Bristlebane Day, they have given us a full quart’s worth of hilarity. I could describe it, but you’re better off just watching the funniest video SOE has ever released. If you don’t die laughing, then I don’t know what to say…
Today, Meatbeast baby pets in five different colors are available for your house, and more importantly, you can now get a Meatbeast mount either a Cow or Bull for 1,950SC. I’m logging in right now!
P.S. for ONE DAY ONLY (April 1st) if you really must, you can get a pink Meatbeast mount.
